God's Word is Comfort in a Troubled World.

In a world of turmoil and shame, Your word brings comfort. In a world where sorrow remains, Your word brings peace.

In a world cruel and ruthless, Your word brings love. In a world of shattered dreams, Your word brings hope.

In a world that makes no sense, Your word brings joy. In a world where death resides, Your word brings life.

In a world full of lies, Your word is Truth. Blessed is the Lord Who's word will last forever.

Life is Precious and God is in Control...

This week I came head on with how precious life is, yet fleeting... the sweetness of seeing the miracle of birth, holding a newborn baby, and receiving the message of serious illness of someone dear.

It has been a bittersweet time for me, seeing a precious new life, and wondering if another is reaching it's final days on this earth.

It has made me remember once again how precious life is and how fleeting, and yet God is in control of life itself. He knows the number of our days. He gave us the gift of eternal life through Christ, so that we would have the confidence that when our life ends on this earth it begins with Him in Heaven.

I thank God for His promisses to never leave us or forsake us, that  we can trust in the One who gave His life so we might live.

Another Birthday...

Time goes by, things change, days come and go. They turn into weeks, months and years. Looking back it's hard to believe so much time has passed since my first birthday that June 7th, when my Mom and Dad and sister welcomed me into the world!

When I was younger, I felt time would never pass fast enough and I would never grow up! Now I want time to slow down, so I can enjoy every moment with friends, family, and experience the beauty of God's Creation...all the special times that become memories all too soon.

God  has blessed me with a beautiful life. I have citizenship in a country where I am free to worship God, travel, pursue whatever dreams adventures and challenges my heart desires. I can't believe I have been so blessed.

I am so thankful for parents who modeled God's love to me, for a husband (who I met in college) who has stuck with me through thick and thin, for all the special people in my life, and for the country I love.

Tomorrow is Father's Day and I will be calling my Dad to tell him I'm so glad he's my Dad.

Every moment I have on this earth is a special gift from God's hand, and I am so thankful. May God help me to make the most of what He has given me, and in turn to bless others.

Light.

When I think of "light" I think of sunshine, glorious brightness, cheer... the opposite of darkness. I think of the beauty of dawn...the sun. Without light, what would there be? Only dark mass.

Jesus said "I am the light of the world". That is an amazing statement. That means without Him, there is only darkness.

In Psalms, David said "The Lord is my light and my Salvation- whom shall I fear?"

Isaiah said "The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned".

John said "In him was life, and that life was the light of men".

Light...it wakes me each morning...glorious, wonderful light...

The Sounds of Silence...

It is so nice to spend a quiet Sunday afternoon simply enjoying peacefull silence...napping outside in a hammock, or sitting in a swing reading a good book, with nothing but the sound of birds, the breeze in the trees, children's laughter in the distance...

A quiet Sunday afternoon takes me back in time, to days long past, when I was a young girl in Brazil.

My family would spend Sunday afternoons after Church in a small house on a hillside overlooking the bay on Governor's Island, off the coast of Rio. There was a hammock on the front porch. I loved that hammock!

I remember how quiet it was there...a warm breeze always blowing... the ocean sparkled where the hillsde met the palm lined white sand beach far below. Life seemed so much simpler then...

I guess that's why God made Sundays...it's a day to worship... reflect... and be still... "Be still and know that I am God"...

It is so good  just to be still and enjoy the sounds of silence... and sweet memories God tucked away in the back of my mind...memories that appear, as I close my eyes, on a quiet Sunday afternoon.

Weeds in My Garden.

This morning I was out in the garden as I am usually on Saturdays, and I noticed the weed population had grown dramatically since I missed a week of weeding! It always amazes me how much care and attention the flowers require to bloom and grow, but the weeds...well they just show up!

It reminded me of how hard it is in my life to keep the "weeds" out. It is so much easier just to let them be... it's so much harder to do the weeding in my life, things I should..."love my enemies, and pray for them" or be nice to the guy that just cut me off on the freeway... or be nice to the lady that just grabbed "my" parking space, or the lady that cut in line at TJ Max...

The weeds reminded me that I have to always be on the look out for weeds in my life...I'm working on doing a better job...a smile instead of a frown for the guy that cut me off, a kind word for a senior citizen who might be in a bad mood in line at the grocery store...letting someone through to park and waving pleasantly, instead of the scowl.

The good news is, that just as I can do the weeding in my garden, I can do it in my life...with Christ's help. I can bloom where I'm planted, and be like a flower adding joy and beauty, and a sweet fragrance to the world around me,  where weeds could easily take over. It's worth the effort!

My garden looks so much better!

The Day the World Changed.

He is risen!

The authorities who had Jesus put to death must have been stunned to awaken to the news that Jesus was no longer in the grave they had so heavily secured with Roman guards!

The disciples were hidding and afraid. Mary Magdalene had gone to the tomb and found the stone removed! She came running to tell Peter the body had been taken...they ran back to the empty tomb. Peter and the other disciple went inside. They saw the strips of linen lying there! They still didn't fully understand Christ had risen, but in their way, believed.

After the disciples had left, Mary stood there crying, and suddenly there He was! She was the first to see the risen Lord! Mary was the honored one who took the word to the disciples "I have seen the Lord".

My heart is beating as I write this, just imagining how their hearts were beating, when they finally understood Jesus was alive! Thomas, who had doubted the others word, when he saw Jesus said "my Lord and my God"!

Everything changed that day! He conquered death, the rulers and authorities of this world, and gave us the promise of a future: life after death! In Christ is life! May all who hear the news receive His gift, which is given freely to all!  Death where is your sting? Jesus is risen!

Sweet Sounds of Spring.

Being the week before Easter, I decided to read through the Gospel of  John, reading a few chapters a day, concluding on Easter Sunday.

John's record begins with a description of who Christ is: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made".

As I pondered this statement, I found myself moved beyond words, as though I was reading these paragraphs for the first time! I was once again in wonder and awe of the majesty and glory of  God!

In a quiet moment, I sat at the piano, played and sang some songs of praise. I was looking out the window into the garden as I sang, when I noticed (and could hear) a bird singing it's heart out! It was a very prolific little Wren, that seemed to be trying to out-sing me! I had to laugh...

I felt as if God was chuckling with me...and enjoying the sweet sounds of Spring...
